STICK HORSES

Stick Horses – Originally 36” long and made in Cocoa Brow, Black, White and Tan and retailed for $1.99 each in the early 1960 when I designed it.
Today (2014) we stick make stick horses, though the design has increased in size and a sound chip has been added that whines and makes the clip-clock hoof beat sound.
I made the stick horse for my son Steven Meyer when he was 18 months old in the early 1960s. Today Steve is head of the Mary Meyer design department and creates designs totally different that my ideas, which is the way it should be.
Originally the stick was 36” long and we found it was too long for youngsters, so we shortened it to 33”. The eyes were original;ly felt eyes cemented onto the horse’s head. After a few years it was changed to lock-in plastic eyes.
In the early 1960s we developed a display box that would display 12 stick horses. We tried other colors such as Honey or a Tan Heather mixture. We found the Brown, Black and Pinto plus White Unicorns were probably the most popular colors during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. After that Steven Meyer took over and added other animals and other colors, which today are very popular.
